Duality and Dialogue: The Crazy Couple & Our Re-release Plan

Introduction: The Power of Two

Welcome back to Duality and Dialogue. In our last post, we introduced ourselves and shared our vision for this blog. Today, we dive deeper into our journey, our experiences, and the unique dynamic that fuels our creative partnership. We’ll also give you an overview of our re-release strategy for each book in the trilogy—because nothing says "crazy couple" like taking on a massive project together!

Our Story: The Crazy Couple

We’re often told we’re a bit of a "crazy couple"—not just because we’ve both been diagnosed with bipolar schizoaffective disorder, but because of the way we approach life, love, and creativity. Our relationship is built on a foundation of mutual respect, love, and a shared passion for storytelling. We’re sparring partners in the best way possible, constantly challenging each other to grow, think differently, and push the boundaries of our creativity.

Monique's Resume: Words, Sound, and Storytelling

Monique Kemper DeSalvo is no stranger to the power of words and sound. With a degree in Journalism, Monique has honed her craft as both a writer and an editor. Her experience ranges from writing and editing for newspapers to working extensively in radio, where she developed her expertise in sound editing.

In her radio career, Monique mastered the art of crafting compelling audio narratives, understanding how sound can evoke emotions and enhance storytelling. This unique combination of skills makes her an invaluable partner in our journey to bring our stories to life. Her background in radio has given her a deep understanding of sound, which is crucial as we prepare to release Audible versions of my trilogy. She’s not just narrating my stories; she’s crafting an auditory experience that will immerse listeners in the world we’ve created.

Here's a candid shot of one of our late-night sessions, a glimpse into the reality of creating something meaningful together. There’s something so romantic about the quiet hours spent working side by side, the glow of the screen illuminating our dedication. This is what it takes to make our vision a reality.

My Resume: Innovation and Imagination

As for me, my background is rooted in the world of video game design, where I earned my degree and discovered a passion for blending technology with storytelling. My books are a testament to this fusion, where sorcery and sword meet technology in a subgenre that pushes the boundaries of traditional fantasy. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of innovation—taking the familiar and infusing it with something new, something unexpected.

This approach has shaped my trilogy, where we explore the dualities of power and vulnerability, technology and magic, reality and imagination. Each book is a reflection of this vision, where our individual strengths complement each other and create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Folie à Deux: Vampires, Dualities, and Shared Madness

Our experiences with bipolar schizoaffective disorder have given us a unique perspective on the world—a perspective that deeply influences our storytelling. We’ve explored themes of duality and madness in our work, drawing inspiration from concepts like Folie à Deux, a psychological phenomenon where two people share a delusion. In our case, we’ve turned this shared madness into a creative force, channeling it into stories that resonate with readers on a profound level.

Vampires, another recurring theme in our work, serve as a metaphor for the dualities we live with every day: life and death, light and darkness, control and chaos. These are not just fictional elements; they are reflections of our own experiences, our struggles, and our triumphs.

Our Re-release Plan: Bringing the Trilogy to Life Again

Re-releasing my trilogy is more than just a chance to update the books with light edits and new cover art; it’s an opportunity to breathe new life into our stories and reach a wider audience. Here’s our plan for each book:

Book 1:Ethereal Ascendent - We’re focusing on tightening the narrative and enhancing character development, making sure every word counts. The new cover art will reflect the dualities explored in the story, drawing readers into the world created. We’re also adding the newest function of Audible. Where Monique will be narrating and I will be doing the voice acting for the male characters.

Book 2: Zodiac’s Fall - This book delves deeper into the technology and magic subgenre I’ve pioneered. We’re refining the pacing and expanding on the world-building to give readers an even richer experience. The Audible version will feature immersive soundscapes that bring the story to life in a whole new way.

Book 3: Transcendent Domain - The final installment of the trilogy is where all the threads come together. We’re enhancing the emotional depth of the story, ensuring that the conclusion is as satisfying as it is thought-provoking. The new cover will symbolize the culmination of the themes explored throughout the series.

Sparring Partners in Love and Creativity

One of the most beautiful aspects of our relationship is how we’ve become sparring partners—challenging each other, pushing each other to grow, and constantly striving to create something meaningful together. We’re not afraid to disagree or to push back when we think the other can do better. It’s this dynamic that has made our work stronger, our bond deeper, and our journey more fulfilling.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward with the re-release of my trilogy, we’re excited to share every step of the journey with you. From the creative decisions we make to the challenges we face, we’ll be open and honest about what it’s like to work together as a couple, as creators, and as individuals living with bipolar schizoaffective disorder.

Stay tuned for more updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes looks at our process. And as always, we welcome your thoughts, questions, and feedback.
