The Importance of Entertainment in Life

“Even in your hobbies, has there not always been some secret attraction which the others are curiously ignorant of--something, not to be identified with, but always on the verge of breaking through, the smell of cut wood in the workshop or the clap-clap of water against the boat's side? Are not all lifelong friendships born at the moment when at last you meet another human being who has some inkling (but faint and uncertain even in the best) of that something which you were born desiring, and which, beneath the flux of other desires and in all the momentary silences between the louder passions, night and day, year by year, from childhood to old age, you are looking for, watching for, listening for?” - C.S. Lewis

Entertainment is as vital as breathing.

Whether you’re mesmerized by the chaotic beauty of Kauai’s feral chickens like I am… or you find peace in the hypnotic glow of a bonfire… or you're just someone who sinks deep into the rhythms of music, the brush strokes of art, the beats of a good game, or the craftsmanship of a home project—know this: these moments matter.

We were made to enjoy, to witness, to play, and ultimately—to create.

I’ve consumed so much entertainment throughout my life that it turned into a fire. A burning, unquenchable drive to give back something of my own. I can’t stop creating, and I don’t plan to. It’s wild. It’s obsessive. And it’s holy.

Some days it feels like madness. But I wouldn’t trade it. This is my calling. I won’t retire. I’ve come too far.

To be a creator is hard. It’s often romanticized, but the truth is it’s grueling, exposing, and exhausting. Still, if you feel that pull—if you’ve got the itch to build something—scratch it.

Write. Meditate. Sing. Game. Stitch. Paint. Dance. Sweat. Play. Dream.

Whatever your hobby is, embrace it. It’s more than a pastime—it’s part of your spiritual wiring. We’re made in the image of a Creator. It’s in our nature to make.

The world is aching for purpose. Carry your own dharma. Bear your own cross. And while you’re at it… play a little.
